In 1930 Mohanlal Kassen departed Walsad, India and arrived in Cape Town where he joined his elder brother in his shoe repair shop.
After a few years, Mohanlal ventured out on his own and established Premier Shoes at 124 Kloof Street. While he may have had minimal formal education, what he did have was a vision, and the drive to make it a reality. Soon Premier Shoes offered ranges of new shoes and accessories in addition to the core business of shoe repairs.
Sadly, my father passed in 1968, leaving control of Premier Shoes to myself, Krishna Kassen. Since my first day behind the counter, my aim has always been to provide our loyal customers with the best service in the shortest time. Thanks to our success, we outgrew our original premises and the store moved across the road to our current location at 155 Kloof Street.
In 2004 Premier Shoes become a 3rd generation business as my son, Keemesh Kassen joined me. Keemesh, who has now taken control of the store, has steered this almost 90-year-old business firmly into the 21st century by expanding the Premier brand into locksmithing, home security and general maintenance as well moving us into the digital age with the introduction of our online store.
